Advancing Financial Technology for Consumers: Mint.com

December 15th, 2008

I recently discovered an awesome website to help manage finances. It’s called Mint.com. It has the usual personal finance features that allows you to track your expenses. But what I really love about it is that the way they deliver their service is just plain smart.

Mint.com

One thing that’s really smart about their service is that it’s provided through a website, and not the software. Delivering value through the website makes life easy for the consumer, because they don’t have to install any software, they don’t have to worry about the files, and they can access it from any computer. Maybe they have more than one computer in the house, and they don’t want to only manage their finances on one computer. Or maybe, there is a friend’s house and they want to show them how it works.

Another great thing about this website is that it’s super easy to understand. How often do you go to a website of a well known company that’s making a lot of money and have the following problems:

  • You can’t figure out where to go
  • You can’t login
  • You can’t figure out what the service is
  • You can’t figure out how the service will help you

These problems are surprisingly common on the Internet today. And, if you go to mint.com, you’ll discover an incredibly well-designed site and service offering.

Another interesting thing about the service is that they use technology to save you money. Their proprietary algorithms for finding new services and ways for you to save money.
