Automated Trading and Life

Many people think that Automated Trading could be the answer to all of their financial problems. We are big believers in the technology, and think that it will revolutionize the world. And, we also believe that even if it solves people’s financial problems, that is not enough. Because solving problems alone is not a solution to life; it is merely a means to finding our own life’s purpose.

Most people hate their problems. They spend all day thinking about them and wishing that they were gone. The funny (?) thing about problems is that as soon as we solve a problem, it is replaced by another problem.

What am I talking about?

Here’s an example. Have you ever thought that winning $10 million in the lottery would be the best thing ever? If you won the lottery tomorrow, would it solve your financial problems? Many people answer yes. I suggest to you quite the opposite: winning the lottery causes more problems than it solves.

If you did win, how would you answer these questions?

  • How would you invest the money?
  • How would you protect it from being stolen?
  • How would you protect it from inflation?
  • How would you avoid the deluge of requests for money from family, friends and strangers?
  • How would feel if some of your friends would be more interested in the money than in being friends?
  • How would you keep from spending it all?

Most people have answers to these questions, but the answers don’t stand up to the litmus test. 80% of lottery winners are in worse shape 5 years after they win than before. They discover that the money did not make them any happier, and get rid of all the money within a few years. They are left with nothing but debts, disappointment and disillusionment.

The solution to this apparent paradox is that we need to become more before we become rich. We need to have a purpose in life, and a dream to fulfill, before we get the money. The money needs to be a means to a worthy goal, and not an end in itself. And the goal needs to be a higher passion, and have personal meaning. Perhaps helping the poor and hungry. It could be saving the planet. It can be whatever makes your soul ring and your spirit soar. God’s song of love resonates through our hearts, if we stop to listen. Our happiness in life will be created by the listening; our fulfillment in life will be created through the doing.
