The Waves Of Wealth-Building Technology

I wrote a post yesterday on the failure of wealth redistribution. Money ends up finding it’s way to the same hands.

But, wealth-building technology has a much better chance of succeeding if it finds its way to regular investors. We have reason to hope this will happen. With the amazing computing power available, it’s just a matter of time before the types of technology that drive hedge funds and private equity funds is available to self-directed investors.

Where’s the source of our optimism?

It relies a lot on our own experimentation, but the bulk of this expectation lies in the path of technological process and Moore’s law. It’s something we’ll explore in depth in our forthcoming eBook, the Wealth Singularity, but here’s an overview.

Technology moves in waves.

It starts as very expensive technology used by only a few wealthy individuals. Because the market is small entrepreneurs seek to bring this technology to the masses. The technology then becomes cheaper and reaches the majority of consumers. Eventually, the technology becomes cheap (if not free) and ubiquitous.

What are some examples?

  • Radio
  • Automobiles
  • Telephones
  • Television
  • Electric appliances
  • Computers
  • The internet
  • Cell phones

And so on.

In fact, this describes the trajectory of every major technology.

These waves of technology and innovation have been described theoretically in Joseph Schumpeter’s works on creative destruction, as well as in the oft-repeated Moore’s Law. Moore’s Law, named after Intel co-founder Gordon Moore, essentially says that computer technology will become exponentially faster and cheaper.

If that’s so–and we made a connection between technology and wealth-creation–we can assume that wealth-building technology for investors will become more available and more inexpensive.

We’re preparing to release a new eBook that will serve as a guide to the oncoming Wealth Singularity. The eBook will explain what the Wealth Singularity is and how you can benefit from it–right now. If you want to be alerted when the book is published, sign up for updates!
