New Cool Stocks Website: Kapitall
I just checked out Kapitall (with 2 l’s) and was really surprised to find so many new and fresh ideas. After my experience with Cooliris, I thought how wonderful it would be to find new ways of displaying the same old, boring stock data. And, just like that, a few days later I found out about Kapitall!

The Kapitall Desktop
As I mentioned before, I think that computers have come a long way in the last 30 years, but the way we interact with them has not changed much since the introduction of the mouse. And, looking at stock charts hasn’t changed either, except that they have gotten more complicated and less readable.
Kapitall has taken a fresh, new approach. Each stock lives on a desktop, and you can move them around. Although they implemented a 2-D solution as opposed to the simulated 3-D wall from Cooliris, I think it works well. Definitely much more intuitive and useful than a list of stocks that you find with other portfolio management systems.
One of the great things about the Kapitall system is that it is very visually pleasing. Although most people dismiss this as an unimportant detail, I think it is absolutely critical. When we are presented with a chaotic and ugly image, it causes mental fatigue. This little secret has been a key factor in Apple’s success. Every product and every image presented to the user has been massaged to be visual pleasing to minuscule detail. Just take a look at Apple’s site and see for yourself.
Back to Kapitall. The site integrates with different brokerages so that you can trade through it without going to your brokerage’s site. And, they understand the importance of mobility: the iPad application is also available.
It’s great to see a company taking a refreshing and different approach to the same old stock portfolio web site. It seems that there is quite a bit of potential in this new way of managing our portfolios.

Hi George, so glad you enjoyed your visit to Kapitall! I’m working for Kapitall this summer as a social media intern and have been very impressed with the site and the team. If you register for the newsletter or follow on Facebook, you’ll get a heads up when we launch our next portfolio contest. Thanks!
