Passive income is often touted as a work-free, pain-less, time-agnostic way to earn money.
The logic goes like this: You employ a few vehicles that can earn money on a 24-7 basis. You can invest and earn money through trading or dividends. You can create a blog or web site. You can do some affiliate or search engine marketing.
And, alakazam, you make money.
It works. Or, it can work.
But passive income does require four distinct phases that do require your attention and due diligence.

That’s my favorite line from author and entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk’s talk that I caught online recently. If you watch the video, you’ll notice that Gary is really sullen and low key. He should try to emote a little more. (Work on that, Gary, k?)
Basically, Gary’s point is that if you tap into your passion, you can produce products and services that will amaze the world and produce wealth. He’s quick to add that you need patience, too.
This ability to turn passion–even passion for the most abstract little niches–into wealth is something I call Me-ployment. And it will be more probable for a few reasons that Gary doesn’t mention in his impassioned presentation.

It looks like the rate of people losing their jobs has slowed. It’s only sorta bad because, if you’re one of those people who lost a job–no matter how slow the rate is–it’s still a scary time. But, once the shock has worn off, the newly jobless often say the moment they lost their position was the best moment of their lives.
They learned to stand on their own. They learned to trust themselves. They opened up the window to new skills and new ways to make money.
