Gold Blog Roundup

June 11th, 2010

Here’s some of the best blog posts I’ve read about gold this week.

Mint.com’s blog has an interesting post about the gold ownership in each country in the world. The U.S. owns the most. More, in fact, than the second and third countries put together.

Quotable Money: Frugalites and Attitude Adjustments

June 8th, 2010

There are always some great memes and ideas from around the personal finance web. Here are some thoughts and quotes I’d like to share with you.

“Just like a horse needs to wear blinders to block out distractions, you need blinders to focus on paying down debt. So what the heck are financial blinders? A budget and a debt snowball.”
Deliver Away Debt

“Definition of a Frugalite: One who is frugal, yet fun. A person who wants to save as much of their hard earned cash as possible – but in creative ways.”
Money Funk

“There are quite a few things that you can do to improve your financial and personal state without spending even a single dime. One of the biggest is simply improving your attitude – the way you interpret the things around you and the way you relate to others.”
The Simple Dollar

Weekly Wisdom: Insights That Go for the Gold

February 21st, 2010

The best of the best. That’s what the Olympics is supposed to be about.

But it’s also about inspiration. When we see a perfectly executed triple axle, or a record-breaking slalom run, maybe we’re not ready to strap on the skates and skis, but we might be inspired to achieve another slightly less death-defying goal in our own field.

As a blogger, I feel the same inspiration. When I read some of my favorite blogs I realize I won’t be able to match the performance of these writers, but I feel inspired to try.

So, if blogging were a sport, and if this week was the start of the personal financial blogging Olympics, here are posts that would receive perfect scores:

I’ll start off our weekly collection of wise posts with a question: why do we call these “lessons.” Aren’t you learning more? Then, shouldn’t the right word be more-ons… oh, maybe that explains it.

Anyways, I’ve scoured the web this week to find some of the best posts on investing and making money. And some other personal financial topics, too.  Please feel free to peruse and click.

Also, I get email after email asking me: why didn’t you include my post? “I’m wise,” they say. “I’m interesting. Validate me.” I just want to tell both of you that I included the posts this week. Sheesh.

If, however, you believe your post was wrongly rejected by my scientifically-powered roundup, please include the link in the comment section.

Weekly Wisdom: C’mon Let’s Get Happy

October 4th, 2009

There are a lot of things to be depressed about. The stock market is sagging and the economy seems to be faltering (again).

But, first, I’m a Schumpeterian. I think that a certain amount of creative destruction is need to pave the way for bigger and better things.

I also believe that for every bit of news out there that depresses you, there are things that should make you happy and excite you to make the world a better place. Whether it’s Dracula’s interview of Winston Churchill or advice on how to battle back if you missed a goal, there are always bits of advice on the web that will make you happy.

Let’s take a look at some of those now.

Weekly Wisdom: The Upside Of Getting Fired

August 9th, 2009

We had some good news on the employment front this week. Sorta.

It looks like the rate of people losing their jobs has slowed. It’s only sorta bad because, if you’re one of those people who lost a job–no matter how slow the rate is–it’s still a scary time. But, once the shock has worn off, the newly jobless often say the moment they lost their position was the best moment of their lives.

They learned to stand on their own. They learned to trust themselves. They opened up the window to new skills and new ways to make money.

If you’re one of those people, here’s a week’s worth of articles and posts to help you through this transition period.

Weekly Wisdom: How To Be A Rock Star And Other Financial Insights

July 26th, 2009

Personal Financial Freedom doesn’t have to be all about skimping on food and skipping baths (not recommended) to save money. It can be about learning how to be a rock star, or finding resources for passive income. It’s also about getting advice on the future financial picture out there: recovery, recession, depression?

Those are just some of the tidbits of info I found during my scouring of the web to find articles and posts that can help us become financially free.

Here’s this week’s collection:

On The 400-plus Post: A Secret History of Blogging

May 30th, 2009
It's a Ferrari 400... In case the connection escapes you.

It's a Ferrari 400... In case the connection escapes you.

Wow. This is officially post number 403.

And we really have all of you to thank. According to our stats, we owe those thanks to about 21,000 of you for your visits and your 1,032 comments.

When we first decided we would create this blog, a few things got us started and kept us going.

To be honest, the field of automated financial trading systems is not known for its–how to I put this politely–let’s say, ethical excellence. From Forex robots to penny stock pickers, the industry is clogged with questionable practitioners. (Did you like “questionable? It’s pretty polite, too.)

Our first goal of the blog, then, was to convey our values and our mission: to help people secure their own financial freedom.  So, even as we’re still technically testing our system, we can still pass on trading tips and investment insights, as well as have some good conversations about the economy and the accelerating future.

It’s kind of fun now to go back and visit that initial document that we made to guide our blog.

Do you want to hear our secrets to blogging success?

Ten Blogs That Will Help You Become A Millionaire

April 19th, 2009

Sometimes we catch a little guff for suggesting that we want everyone to become a millionaire and that Blingtechnology is paving the way for this to happen.

Actually, what I say is I want everyone to follow their dreams and become financially free. This doesn’t mean you have to be a millionaire, per se, as long as you are calling your financial shots. There’s no price tag on independence.

As far as technology helping to create millionaires, it’s already happening! And it’s happening in profound ways. There’s never been a time in human history when financial advice and computing power is available to the mass of society.

In fact, here’s an example of that knowledge that’s (nearly) free. Here are ten blogs that will help you make a million, or become financially free. Whichever comes first.
