Weekly Wisdom: Tips for a Life O’ Luck

March 14th, 2010

With St. Patrick’s day just a wee bit away, we wanted to explore ways to live a rich, good life.

The Irish are known for their pluck and–except for the potato famine here and there–their luck.

But I don’t think it’s some smilin’ leprechaun that endowed the people of the Emerald Isle with their ability to be fortunate. It’s really the typical Irish resilient, inquisitive outlook on life that opens up opportunities.

And. you don’t have to be Irish to have good luck. Luck is a matter of being aware of opportunities and seizing them. And both of those skills–awareness and bold action–can be taught, or at least reinforced.

In this edition of Weekly Wisdom, we’ll cover some tips from the blogosphere that will teach you to make your own luck–whether it’s thinking like Albert Einstein or picking stocks.

Here goes:

How to Avoid Automated Trading Scams

February 9th, 2010

Automated Trading systems have a future in finance and we believe it’s a big future.

It’s already well underway. Automated Trading systems are managing billions of dollars worth of assets and making billions of dollars worth of trades for large financial concerns and hedge funds.

Eventually, these advanced trading systems will work their way into the hands of more individual traders and investors.

One major hurdle remains: companies can spend big bucks testing their systems. We have to trust the developers and, frankly, there are a lot of Automated Trading charlatans in the business.

To minimize the likelihood that you’re not being hosed by an scam artist posing as an Automated Trading developer, here are some due diligence tips.

Weekly Wisdom: Happy Thinks-Giving

November 22nd, 2009

This week, a lot of this blog’s American friends will be racing around the country, heading back to old hometowns and stuffing themselves silly with calories and carbohydrates. Maybe, somewhere between fighting traffic and contemplating the utter weirdness of humanity while waiting at the airport, they’ll take stock of how lucky they are.

But before you go, though, here’s some food for thought from a flock of blogs. It’s a mash of the best ideas on personal finance and personal improvement that I could find. There are also some suggestions on how to better handle the upcoming holiday season.

Hopefully, it’ll add some gravy to your 2010.

Since I’m out of bad puns, I’ll just pass over the links.

Personal Abundance Tip 1: Stop Digging

October 2nd, 2008

Since we’re heading into an economic headwind, I thought this might be a good time to discuss some personal finance tips–or as I like to call them Personal Abundance tips–that won’t just help us weather this headwind, but to tap it for greater prosperity.

Your first step should be to take a look at your finances… even if it’s a pretty ugly picture. There may be some things that aren’t working for you. It reminds me of the old admonition that if you dug yourself into a hole, your first step to get out is to STOP DIGGING.

So, look at your income. Look at your debt. Look at where you’re spending your money.

Where is the money going and how can you make that money better work for you? This doesn’t have to be negative. Are the things you are spending money on necessary… or even healthy? How about coffee (guilty as charged)? Cigarettes? Beer? Junk food? Gambling?

You might be able to save money and eliminate a negative habit. It’s a two-fer!

If you use this time to end habits that have been on your list of New Year’s Resolutions for the past decade, besides saving money, you’re also making yourself healthier… more employable… and more productive. This will sooner or later benefit your bottom line.

At Online Investing AI, we believe that to be truly independent, you must be financially independent. Look for more Personal Abundance Tips here.
