The Yakezie Alexa Ranking Challenge

After reading this post over at Financial Samurai, I decided to do the Yakezie Challenge. You can read all about Yakezie here.

It is interesting to me because it is all about helping others. How often do you find an online organization like that? And it is also about building blog traffic, which is one of my business goals.

Currently, the traffic rank for this site is 462,815. Traffic has been growing steadily for the last month or so, and I want to make sure that it continues.

What’s great about the challenge?

I can see several things that make sense about this.

  1. It is a community of like-minded people. As the Financial Samurai points out in his post, we are the average of the five closest people to us. I totally belove that. What better way to improve our blog than to associate with other successful bloggers?
  2. There is a specific goal: to reach an Alexa ranking of 100,000. I think that is a good goal because it sets a blog apart from 99% of other blogs. And, it is not impossibly difficult. I think anyone can achieve it within a year, and probably within six months.
  3. The challenge for most bloggers is to stay motivated, especially when traffic is low and there are no comments. Sometimes I wonder if anyone ever reads this blog. Having a goal and working with others are great ways of staying motivated.
  4. The challenge also offers accountability. If I “forget” to follow through, this post will be here forever to remind me. I think we can all benefit from a little more accountability when we set out to achieve a goal.

It will be interesting to see how all this progresses.
